Donald Lee Cox, 84, of Weldon passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Cox was a native of West VA, the son of the late Frank Cox and Nellie Hawkins Cox Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy L. Cox, a son, Dave Cox, grandson, Eric Shorder, and a brother, Roy Cox. He was a WWII U. S. Army veteran, and a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years.

He is survived by his brother, Ken Cox and sister, Phyllis J. Haggart, both of Ohio; his children and stepchildren, Lisa Williams of Roanoke Rapids, Becky Marshall of Texas, Pam Shorder of Ohio, Sheila Skidmore of Maryland, John Mertz of Ohio and Jerry Mertz of MN; his grandchildren, Brian Pooley and his fiancée, Brook Edwards,of Roanoke Rapids, Lisa Shorder, Nicole Palmer of Ohio, Shannon Skidmore, Kelly Skidmore, both of Maryland, April Cox and Valerie Cox, both of Ohio; many great-grandchidren; and great-great grandchildren.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where a memorial chapel service will be held on Saturday, October 22, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at the home after the service.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Cox’s service to his country.
